In Anambra State of today, no woman is better known or loved than she is. As the wife of Mr. Peter Obi, she had no First Lady’s office and other appurtenances “enjoyed” by others, but she did one thing remarkable: she visited all the communities in Anambra State more than once and joined the women in living simply that during the election of 2013, many people, mostly women, craved for her completely blind to the possibility that people would accuse him 9Mr. Peter Obi) of trying to appropriate Anambra’s leadership to his family. During August meetings, she participated in person and made women to accept her as one of theirs. Today, whenever any Anambra woman meets his Excellency, the first question has remained consistent: “What of Margaret? Tell her that……”
How do we rank her and what do we write about her? Pious and virtuous, her example and accommodating nature help to make her home- whether at the lodge or wherever – humane and nourishing. Her Excellency knows how to love – love in its truest agapaic meaning - and it is always a pleasure to be loved by her.
She shares in her husband’s successes in business, through the corporate world and to the public life.
There is nobody who comes across her that has not accounted her as beautiful and charming, but her beauty and charm are more of character than form. Family background or tutelage under the great master must have engendered in her a modesty and gentleness that disarmed even enemies. She unarguably possesses brilliant mind and vivacious wit.
Any influence on the master? Yes and at all times! When the master was the Governor, she alone brought an atmosphere of calm into a life that in almost every hour had to make decisions affecting millions of lives. “Peter (while fondling his head), common, let this not affect your spirit or dampen your resolve for the good of our people”, was her constant refrain ma ogbajuo dolu.
She is of incomparable grace and yet measured and respectful. She is just in understanding, and full of an inexhaustible yet never redundant flow of rational, gentle, and sprightly conversation; a temper of which the serenity was never for a moment ruffled.
Between husband and wife, a harmony of understanding, mind and manners fertile to harmonious living in spite the wicked rumour being peddled by charlatan is always observable.
As she adds one today, let us join all men and women of goodwill to celebrate a woman who is both good and adorable.
